Muslim Funeral Groups
Due to high funeral costs in Canada, there are some groups led by imams or Muslim leaders who offer free burial to a deceased member. The member needs to register once with a fee when they are alive and the funeral cost will be shared collectively by all other members of the group when a member dies. No shared cost is charged from the deceased family. It appears that a person needs to pay a 1-time registration fee and then bear a nominal shared cost for every new burial, leading to covering your own burial cost at the time of hardship.
