Shaikh Ahmad Kutty Honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award by Muslim Circle of Canada

Shaikh Ahmad Kutty, Resident Scholar and Senior Lecturer at the Islamic Institute of Toronto (IIT), was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Muslim Circle of Canada (MCC) at its Annual General Meeting on 20 September 2026. The award recognised more than five decades of scholarship, teaching, religious guidance, and service to Muslim communities in Canada and beyond.

The award was presented by MCC Chairman Shahin Siddiquee, with MCC Organizational Secretary Sayef Ahmed also present during the presentation.


For more than half a century, Shaikh Kutty has served Muslim communities as a teacher, jurist, writer, counsellor, and community leader. Through his lectures, writings, religious guidance, and personal mentorship, he has helped generations of Muslims engage seriously with Islamic teachings while addressing the realities of contemporary life.

His scholarly journey began with traditional Islamic studies in India and continued at the Islamic University of Madinah. He later pursued graduate studies in Canada, combining classical Islamic learning with an understanding of the social and cultural context of Muslim life in North America. Over the years, he has served in significant teaching and leadership roles, including at the Islamic Centre of Toronto and the Islamic Foundation of Toronto. He continues his scholarly and educational service as a resident scholar and senior lecturer at IIT.

Shaikh Kutty's work has addressed Islamic jurisprudence, ethics, spirituality, counselling, interfaith engagement, and community development. A distinguishing feature of his scholarship has been his ability to communicate serious Islamic knowledge in an accessible manner while maintaining its intellectual depth. His teaching has consistently emphasised wisdom, compassion, balance, and responsibility to the wider community.

The Lifetime Achievement Award represents recognition not only of a distinguished scholarly career, but also of a life devoted to translating knowledge into service. Through his teaching and mentorship, Shaikh Ahmad Kutty's contribution continues through the students, families, and community members who have benefited from his work over the past five decades.
